Our Next StepsRepurposing the Escuela Carols Escobar Lopez school as an Emergency Shelter
AESARA Foundation works to solve the needs of the people and communities with creative + strategic thinking and hard work. We believe that each time we undertake a project our impact is measured primarily by the experience of the community we serve.
Loiza was severly affected by the two September 2017 hurricanes, Irma & Maria. The recovery efforts are still ongoing 6 years on. Every year we build on the goal to make Loíza resilient and purpose built. Our current focus is to repurpose a local building as an Emergency Shelter in Loíza, Puerto Rico.
The school conversion to Emergency Shelter is ongoing. The next stage we would like to support is the $105,000 renovation of the bathroom facilities of the 2nd and 3rd floor in the emergency shelter.
Fundraising Goal
$105,000goal to be used:

In 2019
As our team worked on revitalizing the exteriors of homes around the square of Loíza we understood the mayor’s broader goals of stimulating the economy and increasing tourism in Loíza.
We kicked off the project with a service trip in September 2019 and completed it during our third trip in January 2020. This trip featured several new partners/vacationers in Puerto Rico who heard about the ongoing work and came to lend a hand.
It was a huge success for Loíza and started the spark leading to many more homes now being beautified.
